I recently shot some advertising images for a local clothing company out here called Yesterdays Sportswear. I happened to run into the owner Tim a few weeks ago, and after talking for a while he asked if I would be interested in shooting a few images for some new pieces they had. Tim owns a ranch and vineyard out in the country with a really cool old farm house that we were able to use for a location. We met up there to do some scouting and after picking a date, all we had to find was a model. I had worked with Danielle before on another shoot, and loved the positive energy and attitude she brings to the set. She works hard, is a really happy person, and is really a team player.
We were done test lighting and started shooting by about 7:30 in the morning. I love working with natural light and blending my own lighting into that. The ranch provided a good mix of both sun and shaded spots, giving us lots of options to work with. I like to us fairly minimal gear, which can really allow you to change an adapt to the natural environment fairly easy. Your mind just always has to be a step ahead of where your currently working… planning for the light will be, and knowing what it will like when you move to your next location. Luckily for me, their house was made of white stucco, which I was able to use as a giant reflector as the sun started getting high and creating shadows. All of the images were shot with a single light and a 36” octa box, and with either my 50 or 85mm primes. All in all we shot about 6 pieces, and made about 300 images.
Yesterday’s has their own in house photoshop guy that does all the editing for their website and internal sales stuff, so everything im sharing here are my own edits and favorites from the day. They were really excited to get all the images (always good to hear), and we are currently working on setting up two more shoots which is really exciting. Hit up the comments, or email with any questions!

Recently shot some photos of my friend Kristopher. Kris is an amazing graphic designer, a worship leader at Calvary SLO, and writes and records a lot of his own music as well. I will post a few more of the images on my Facebook page later, but here is my favorite so far. You can check out his music here… definitely worth a listen! Shot with a single beauty dish, white paper backdrop, and the Canon 5D MkII +85mm 1.8. Probably my single favorite combo ever.

I think I am making the switch to almond butter. Soooo good. Topped with cinnamon, and a side of strawberries. Intelligentsia coffee. Whats your favorite coffee?

I have been wanting to photograph Hank in his welding shop for a while, and finally got the chance about a week ago. (You may have already seen a couple of the photos on the Facebook page). The British sports car shop I photographed recently sends all of their fabrication work out to Hank, and I was introduced to his work while photographing the owner Pete.
Hank originally went to school for fine art, but was introduced to the automotive world by a friend, and was totally captivated. The work he creates today is one of a kind, and individually crafted to meet all of his customers needs. He is completely self taught, and the passion for his craft shines through in all of his work. From elegant bicycle parts, to some of the cleanest street rods in the area, Hank does it all, and extremely well. His shop and work are a great example of what it means to be true to yourself, and to your craft, letting it speak for itself, and being a genuine person.

Back again after a small break, is my small business owner photo project. My original intention was for this series to be a weekly post, but between an outright lack of participation from people and or cancellations its slowed down a bit. Because of this, I have decided to turn it into more of a bi weekly project. This will give me more time to really search out people who are genuinely interested in being a part of the project, and also allow for the shoots to be developed and planned out a little bit.
It was very encouraging to photograph Gavino on his bamboo farm to re-start this project. He is such a humble guy, who is seeing his dream become a reality on this little bamboo farm in Paso Robles, CA. We were able to share some great conversation on risk taking, patience, and tying family into that. (I also got a small biology lesson, and my own bamboo plant. =)
If you, or someone you know owns a small business, and would like to be a part of the project, please email me here. Thanks!
PS. Also have my first official assistant which is kind of exciting… Noah. Hes a pretty awesome painter, and you can see his work here.

My all time favorite. English muffin with peanut butter, banana, and cinnamon. Coffee brewed via chemex.
Thanks for all the support, feedback, and for sharing this project.
